About us
Austrian Standards stands for Austrian Standards Institute and Austrian Standards plus Inc.
- Austrian Standards Institute (Österreichisches Normungsinstitut) is a neutral and independent service organisation – not a federal bureau or authority. As a non-profit association it provides (since 1920) the basis for the development of standards and rules. Enterprises, federal authorities, scientists and consumers use this offer. In committees, they design the contents of the rules and standards they require and implement in practice.
The Normengesetz from 1971 (standards act/law) is the legal framework for the activities of the Austrian Standards Institute.
As the Austrian member of the European Committee for Standardization CEN (Comité Européen de Normalisation) and of the International Organization for Standards ISO, the Austrian Standards Institute enables and coordinates the cooperation of Austrian experts in the development of European and International standards.
